Mom’s Crumb Cake

Moms Crumb CakeMy mom brought over a massive sheet of crumb cake the day my wife and I brought our son home from the hospital. We thought we would share it, but we ended up eating the whole thing by ourselves that week! Not sure where Mom found this recipe, so for now she get’s the credit and we’ll call it Mom’s Crumb Cake.

Crumb  cake recipe

  • 1 box of yellow cake mix- NOT pudding kind
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/3 cup water
  • 1 ½ tsp vanilla

Combine first four ingredients and beat in mixer for 4 minutes (less if you want a heavier texture for the cake). Pour into a 12×17 jelly roll pan. Bake at 350° for 10 minutes.

For the crumb

  • 1 lb of soft butter
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 1/3 cup sugar
  • 3 tsp vanilla
  • 3 tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt

Combine remaining ingredients until it has the consistency of wet sand. Crumble over partially cooked cake. Return cake to oven for 10-15 minutes more (toothpick should come out clean if not return to oven). Cool and sprinkle with confectioner sugar. Cut into squares.

    Hi there ~ I’m new to your blog. I found it through a comment that was left on Picky Palate. This crumb cake looks delicious! Most of the ones I’ve tried are sort of on the dry side. I was wondering what brand of cake mix you use in this? I guess I thought that all brands cake mix, add pudding to the mix.

    Anyways, I wanted to say hi ~ Now I’m going to spend some time here looking around!

    Ooh, this looks delicious! I’m an absolute sucker for crumb cake. As in, I will eat all of the crumbs, leave you with the bare cake, and not be sorry.

    I’d love to see this one make a reappearance–more photos to drool over! 😉
