This is definitely my favorite of all recipes. In memory of my Papa, the original Tom Cancelleri.
There exists a yellow sticky note that is probably 25-30 years old that was hand written by my Papa. He passed away in 1995, and to this day these cookies are still a family favorite and will forever be remembered as Papa cookies. Though I like to format everything in a bulleted list and keep it very cook book looking, I will post it as written on the note. Enjoy =)
1 cup sugar
½ tsp. Salt
¾ cup vegetable oil
3 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
½ oz anise extract
4 ¼ cups flour
Blend sugar and eggs. Add oil, vanilla, anise, and then dry ingredients. Mix well. Roll out to size of a finger and cut to 2 inch lengths. Brush both sides with egg white, then roll in sesame seeds.
Bake at 350 for about 20-25 minutes.
