Harry Potter Butter Beer Banner

Are you a Harry Potter fan? Rachel is, but I’ll admit, I wasn’t always. The first few movies were not very interesting to me. They seemed like Scooby Doo set to a Wizards and Magic theme.  And I don’t have anything against wizards or magic. I’m a huge Lord of the Rings fan. (Side note: Gandalf would win in a fight against Dumbledore, any day). But as the Harry Potter series progressed it became darker and more serious. I found myself really enjoying the later movies to the point that I had to read the books. So we are really excited to check out the final Harry Potter film, The Deathly Hallows Part 2. We already have our sitter on stand by for Baby Boy. 🙂

To celebrate the final film I thought it would be fun to try Harry Potter Butter Beer; the ubiquitous drink of the series. There are many variations out there but I wanted something simple to make and perfect for the summer heat. This recipe is it, offering a somewhat slushy, butterscotchy drink that is best enjoyed sitting outside by a pool or in a lounge chair reading a book. And if you aren’t in the mood for alcohol, or want to serve this to kids, replace the schnapps with butterscotch syrup.

So…are you going to see the final Harry Potter film?

Recipe: Harry Potter Butter Beer

Butter Beer Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups cream soda
  • 6 tablespoons butterscotch schnapps (or butterscotch syrup for non alcoholic)
  • 2 cups ice

  • 6 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon butterscotch schnapps (or butterscotch syrup for non alcoholic)
  • Directions

    1. Combine cream soda, schnapps and ice in a blender. Blend until slushy. Pour into a glass or mug.
    2. In a small bowl, combine heavy cream and schnapps. Using an electric mixer, whisk together until almost whipped. The cream mixture should be slightly loose, not as firm as whipped cream.
    3. Top the butterbeer with the foamy topping and serve immediately.

    Number of servings (yield): 2

Here are the four simple ingredients you will need to make Harry Potter Butter Beer. To go non alcoholic switch out the Schnapps with a Butterscotch Syrup.

Oh yes, dorky and delicious!! With cream soda as a main ingredient, how could you go wrong? You know your hidden dork would really like this on a hot summer day like today 🙂 Go make some!

Now how did I miss this? Must’ve been before I found your blog. Well, this sounds delicious enough to drink as a holiday drink 🙂 Yes, I saw the movie. I also read all of the books as soon as they came out, picked up my pre-ordered book 7 at midnight at the toy store and then went to various book stores to check out the scene 🙂 My hubby, who was meh on HP to start with as well, is now in HP withdrawal 🙂

I will be making this the next time I have a HP marathon or tomorrow when I reread the books 🙂
