Family meals are important to Rachel and me. We both grew up in families where everybody sat down at the table to eat dinner together. Now married and with a family of our own, we also make it a point to sit down and have dinner together. Granted, with a 2 1/2 year old and a 1 year old those meal times are often noisy and messy and chaotic. But we all sit down and enjoy a meal together.
As our boys grow older we intend on keeping with this. It’s something we think is important. Rachel and I make it a point to cook and eat fresh. We don’t always succeed, but we have been working on eating less processed foods – straight down to making our own french fries. Some nights are more difficult than others, and sometimes we aren’t eating until 6:30, which can be rough because bedtime routine starts at 7. But going back to the whole family mealtime, it’s important to share a meal together.
When we were asked to review Bertolli’s frozen Classic Meals, a product aimed at time crunched people and families looking for a tastier and more authentic frozen Italian meal, we thought, why not? We have a $100 gift card to give away courtesy of Bertolli for you! Details on that in just a moment, but first, to be fair, let’s talk about their Classic Meals for Two and what we thought of it. Rachel and I do try to make our meals fresh and freeze leftovers for those days we can’t. And when that fails, we’ll pick up some pizza dough and make a homemade pizza on our pizza stone! So we weren’t quite sure what to expect from Bertolli’s frozen meals.
We decided to try Bertolli’s Chicken Margherita and Penne, a frozen meal for two. It comes in bag that you just open up, pour into a skillet, cover, and cook for about 10 minutes until the sauce is bubbling and it’s nice and hot. So bonus points right there on being as easy to make as boiling a pot of pasta. Actually, easier- no straining As for the taste – it was actually quite good. The pasta was al dente, the chicken was tender, and the tomatoes were juicy and flavorful. Really, if someone made it for me, I probably couldn’t tell you it was from the freezer section.
Bertolli says they prepare these frozen meals with the finest restaurant-quality ingredients. It shows. Now I don’t mean to sound all promotionally, and we aren’t required to write a positive review. We really thought it was pretty good. So give it a try if you are the type to venture into the frozen food section. You’ll be pleased.
