Our first blog give away! It’s like our little blog just grew up a little, sniffle sniffle
Today we are pleased to announce our first blog giveaway, a $50 Panera Bread Gift Card courtesy of Panera Bread! We thought it would be fun to pair this giveaway with another Panera inspired recipe, so we picked my favorite sandwich – Bacon Turkey Bravo. The sandwich itself is quite simple, but the thing that makes it special is the dressing and the tomato basil bread.
But before we get to the giveaway, a quick story!
I have known the beautiful woman I blog with, my wife Rachel, for just over eleven years now. As I shared in a previous post, we met as college freshman when we lived a few dorm rooms apart and attended some of the same classes.
If Baby Boy ever traveled back in time to 2000 (in a DeLorean of course) and asked his unsuspecting parents where they saw themselves in 10 years, I don’t think either of us would have foreseen a blissfully happy marriage and the most wonderful Baby Boy in our shared future. And yet here we are, and we couldn’t possibly imagine not being together.
Panera was our casual “date spot”. It gave two college kids the chance to get away from the cafeteria food, to sit down in a quiet place, and get to know each other over a hot bowl of broccoli cheddar or french onion soup. Somehow, two kids who thought they were just friends realized they were so much more.
Years later, after we had graduated and I had left for Japan as an English teacher, I bought Rachel a Panera gift card to use while I was gone. It was just a small gesture, wanting to be able to “share” soup half way across the globe; even if it meant I was slurping on some ramen noodles in the Japanese countryside while she was enjoying her french onion soup back home.
Fast forward back to 2011. We still like sharing Panera soups and sandwiches. And now we get to share both a recipe and gift card with you!
Let’s talk about this recipe, which is super simple. Grab yourself some hearty, flavored bread; maybe even make yourself some tomato basil bread if you are in a baking mood. Then, to recreate the Panera sandwich, layer two thick slices of the bread with crisp romaine lettuce and fresh tomato, smoked gouda and sliced turkey, and of course some delicious, crispy bacon. Finish the sandwich with the creamy dressing, and dig in to deliciousness.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoons lemon juice, freshly squeezed
- 1/4 teaspoon dried mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 dash Tabasco sauce
- 2 slices tomato basil bread (or other hearty favorite)
- 1 leaf romaine lettuce
- 3 slices tomatoes (1/4-inch thick)
- 4 ounces smoked turkey breast, sliced thin
- 1 slice smoked gouda cheese
- 2 slices bacon, cooked crisp
Instructions
- Combine all the ingredients in a small bowl and stir well.
- Spread 2 tbsp of the dressing on one of the bread slices (we put it on both sides).
- On top of one slice of bread, layer lettuce, tomato, turkey, Gouda, and bacon.
- Top with the second slice of bread and serve.

that’s so neat you taught overseas for a bit. How interesting that must have been for you! And such a cute gesture to send a gift card to Rachel to enjoy Panera without you.
We only have one panera in the area. I wish it were closer though.
It was quite the experience! Sharing some stories and pictures is on my (long) to do list.
Mmm, the turkey sandwiches from Panera are my favorite! This looks delicious.
The closest Panera to my apartment is a pretty hefty walk…but I might just have to make the trek after all these posts.

I love Panera Bread!
Bacon Turkey Bravo is my favorite sandwich at Panera. I have been trying to get them to sell bottles of the bravo sauce because it is SO good and I can’t get enough, but they don’t seem to bottle it. I will definitely try this homemade recipe to see if it’s even close to as good as the original! Thanks!
Panera is amazing! Love love love them.

The recipes look really delicious, and I like how they’re healthy as well. Which ones are original, and which ones are inspired? mmmmmm. Great job, Rachel and Chris! mmmmmmm. Gabrielle
